Rensselaerville Library Director Leaving to Take Director Position at Community Library in Cobleskill
Kimberly Graff Zimmer, the esteemed director at Rensselaerville Library, has accepted the library director position at the Community Library in Cobleskill, NY. Ms. Zimmer will begin her new job in Cobleskill in mid-October. In 2009, Ms. Zimmer received her master’s in library science degree from Syracuse University and became director at the Rensselaerville Library in May 2010. She has worked tirelessly ever since to transform the library, which is housed in an historic row house in the hamlet of Rensselaerville, into a comfortable, welcoming space and a treasured community resource. Her grant writing efforts have enabled the library to restore and upgrade facilities, including the addition of a wheelchair accessible front entrance ramp and porch, revitalized children’s programming areas, and a rebuilt backyard garden hardscape. In addition, she has improved library services by upgrading the collection, hiring a youth services coordinator to provide youth programming, receiving grants to bring in nationally sponsored programs, updating library hours to better serve the patrons and implementing a fine-free policy, which eliminates late fees on overdue items. During her tenure, Ms. Zimmer became involved in many community organizations, leading to several new collaborative events between the library and other organizations in the town.
The Rensselaerville Library is chartered to serve the scenic town of Rensselaerville, a town of 1,800 residents in upstate New York, 30 miles southwest of Albany. The library is located within the Rensselaerville historic district, a National Register of Historic Places district which includes 86 mostly Greek revival style buildings from the early 19th century. The Community Library in Cobleskill serves a community of 18,000 people in the Cobleskill Richmondville school district.
Linda Styer, the president of the board of trustees for the Rensselaerville Library, said that the board will be forming a committee to search for a new director. “Kim’s extraordinary efforts have left a lasting mark on the library and the community as a whole. We will miss Kim greatly, but we know that the position at Cobleskill is an incredible opportunity. We wish her well and thank her for her many years of dedicated service to our library.”
