Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body Tuesday, March 26, 2019 3-4pm Program provides information and tips on healthy aging At any age, there are lifestyle habits we can adopt to help maintain or even potentially improve our health. These habits may also help to keep our brains healthy as we age and possibly delay the onset of cognitive decline. To help people age well, the Alzheimer’s Association® is offering the Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body: Tips from the Latest Research program. This workshop covers four areas of lifestyle habits that are associated with healthy aging: • Cognitive activity. • Physical health and exercise. • Diet and nutrition. • Social engagement. In each area, we will discuss what we know, drawing on current research, as well as what we can do — steps to take now to improve or maintain overall health in each area. Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body: Tips from the Latest Research is designed for individuals of any age who are looking for information on ways to age as well as possible. Effective Communication Strategies Wednesday, May 1, 2019 3-4pm Education program on communication helps families facing Alzheimer’s Individuals living with dementia often experience changes in behavior that can be confusing to friends and family. For caregivers, learning to decode messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions and body language can help both parties to connect and communicate in meaningful ways. Effective Communication Strategies is a program provided by the Alzheimer’s Association® that explores how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s disease. By the end of the program, attendees will be able to: Explain the communication changes that take place throughout the course of the disease. Decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia and respond in ways that are helpful to the person. Identify strategies to connect and communicate at each stage of the disease. Effective Communication Strategies includes video interviews with professionals who explain critical aspects of communication throughout the Alzheimer’s journey, and caregivers who share tips that have worked for their families.
